MEET OUR FOUNDER

Nicole Acevedo, Ph.D.
Founder & CEO, Elavo Mundi Solutions, LLC

As a reproductive and environmental health scientist with expertise on the human health risks of everyday exposure to harmful chemicals, Dr. Nicole Acevedo began her work in the safer consumer goods space in 2015 with the express goal of helping expand and refine the scientific standards used to define safer, more sustainable ingredients within the personal care industry. Nicole has worked with pioneering brands in ‘clean beauty’, as well as with start-ups, retailers, formulators, manufacturers, and raw material suppliers to improve the safety and sustainability profile of personal care products, implement industry-leading testing strategies to increase knowledge of ingredient safety, and incentivize adoption of more sustainable raw materials in the personal care industry.

Dr. Acevedo received her doctorate in Molecular and Integrative Physiology at the University of Michigan and focused her postdoctoral research at Tufts University School of Medicine on understanding the adverse effects of hormone-disrupting chemicals on human health.

Within the last decade, the ideology of ‘clean beauty’ emerged as a response to increasing scientific evidence of the adverse health impacts from exposure to chemicals commonly found in consumer goods.

Despite a lack of meaningful federal regulation on cosmetic safety here in the U.S., consumer advocacy has been instrumental in creating a strong market drive for safer consumer goods. Progressive companies are responding to international regulatory changes as well as to growing consumer demand for robust ingredient transparency and safer product options and it is becoming clear that safer, more sustainable products are good for business.
